In June 2025 we reached Product of the Day, and then Product of the Week on Product Hunt.

I’ve had a ton of people ask about the best way to approach a PH launch and so I figured I’d share all the intel here, I hope it’s useful!

Preparation

A successful PH launch is 95% preparation. You don’t need a ton of time, a couple days is sufficient, but you do need to make it your top focus for those few days.

The Day

First, pick a day.

There’s a lot of argument online about the ‘best’ day to launch. As with anything, it depends on what you’re going for.

If you wanna cheat the Product of the Day badge, launching on a weekend could work (as there’s less competition), but it comes with its own challenges in terms of getting upvotes, and won’t drive as much traffic, which should really be the point.

In the week, I personally think Tuesday-Thursday is best. Monday is often too busy and Friday too much like a weekend. To have the best shot of Product of the Week, I would launch on a Tuesday, like we did.

The Video

Second, you need a good video. From what I’ve seen, and what worked well for us, a simple ‘talking heads’ video with you and your cofounder walking through the product often works better than a well animated or high production affair.

People connect with people, and especially on Product Hunt, the community cares about the builder behind the product.

You should still take recording seriously, but a good camera, mic, and desk is all you really need.

As for the content of the video, I think the best format includes a ‘hook’ at the start: an incredibly obvious use case or value proposition to get peoples attention. One single sentence that makes them think ‘I need that’ or invokes a reaction / curiosity.

For us, we went with “We built a product that’s stalked everyone you know.” In hindsight, I regret this framing. It’s not aligned with the spirit of the product, or our brand. I was a but too ‘Cluely-pilled’ at the time, and seeking a reaction. However, it was a good hook.

You then need to follow up with clear product value. This is NOT a laundry list of features. You should pick 1-3 things that show obvious value, and make the watcher think ‘I need that’.

For us, it was: insights ahead of meetings, deeply researched profiles, and searching your network in natural language.

The clips should be snappy, show off the product, and have good use of zoom to make it easy for the watcher to follow whats going on. Tools like Tella.tv and Screen Studio are great for this.

Crop every wasted millisecond, and then have a good CTA at the end. “Available now” with your URL is the best, show them this isn’t a ‘beta’ or a ‘waitlist’, but something they can really use.
